sophie's birthday celebration - part 1

sophie is a very lucky girl. on the saturday, 28th november 2009, we celebrated sophie's 1st birthday party. it was held in our humble pad with over 12 adults and 2 children attended the party - among close friends and family.

we have mommy didie cooked nasi lemak accompanied by grandma rosalyn's tauchoo kangkung (water spinach). if you wondered what 'nasi lemak' is, it is a dish that is very popular in malaysia (my home country), which you can have it over breakfast, lunch or tea. this dish comes as a platter of food wrapped in banana leaf (normally), with cucumber slices, small dried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, hard boiled egg, and hot spicy sauce (sambal) at its core. the rice is cooked (or steamed) with knotted screwpine (or pandan leaves) and coconut cream. spices like ginger and shallots are added too for additional fragrances. i have made seafood marinara sambal to go with this dish and daddy alex contributed 2 roasted birds from coles. they were yummy to have together! to add, grandma rosalyn also prepared vegetarian curry puff for the folks.

thanks to aunty vivien for the lovely nyonya kuih & puff pastries. they were pretty & delicious too.

as we know, no birthday is without a birthday cake. didie bakes baked fresh chocolate mini and cup cakes for sophie. cakes were finished with milk chocolate ganache and decorated with swirl pink buttercream frosting, sprinkled with rainbows sprinkles. very simple birthday cupcakes for the little one.
although sophie girl was not in her 100%-self (she was down with fever and nasty diarrhea - teething problems) and she did not get to make a wish on her birthday cakes, sophie had a good time and enjoyed the company of the loved one. over all it was the best birthday party ever.

i personally would like to thank you to all family and friends that attended and for everyone who was unable to attend thanks again for your thoughts and wishes. sophie opened up her presents finally after a long weekend and loved them all.

thank you again for your presents it is greatly appreciated. mommy and daddy love you so very much
